Wrapping up the Summer

As the season arrived and was celebrated with all pomp, with people flaunting their breezy colorful summer wear, heading out of state for the holidays, and some making the best of what Goa's naturally beautiful sites have to offer, the time quickly ticked away and we now experience joyful bouts of rain that is a great relief from the hot sticky weather that has now reached its peak. Well, during the summer I too enjoyed getting out my breezy clothing and went on a picnic to one of Goa's most beautiful spots.

I always wanted to do a photo shoot of one of my closest friends, Ninotchka, and I finally got the chance to do so. As you can see she is gorgeously beautiful and that added a lot to my photographs. So we went around Panjim city for a day long photoshoot and managed to get some good shots and have alot of fun while doing so. We went about the styling based on two themes : "All white everything" and "Add that dash of Pink".

All White, everything.

We styled this outfit around Ninotchka's favourite white Maxi dress that was breezy and relaxed. An elegant white stone statement neckpiece, a dainty bracelete, ring and gold sandals with a pink sole completed the look. The look was cooling and fluid and perfect for a relaxed day strolling around the city. The all white theme also followed Ninotchka's love for the colour white and the styling matched her simple but elegant sense of style.

Add that dash of Pink.

This look surrounded the joy of Summer. We wanted this look to be fun and playful and we thought pastels, fluid silhouettes, and that dash of bright fuchsia pink is what the look called for. We paired a multi coloured pastel sleeveless top with a mustard yellow skirt. A fuchsia pink sling and gold strappy sandals with a fuchsia pink sole completed the look along with minimal jewellery.

Dissertation layout design

Hey guys!
So I know I haven't posted in quite a while but I was up to the neck with final submissions, and then a very tiring month long final examinations. I have finally completed my four years in the Goa College of Art. Today was my last day of college and I am sad that this awesome adventure is finally ending as well as totally excited about what is going to come next. This college has taught me so much and I have grown so much as an artist in these four years.

Well, I feel all the all-nighters and hard work payed off in making me feel very satisfied with what I have managed to achieve and complete in this past year and I now have a complete portfolio in hand.

One of the projects that I was very excited to do was my dissertation. I chose the topic, "The inspiration behind the idea. Where to draw the line?" because all these years I was very curious about the concept of inspiration, where it comes from and the concept of copying always disgusted me. Writing this dissertation taught me a lot about inspiration, its sources, what we should do when we are stuck for an idea and where should people draw the line when gaining inspiration from other artists works that leads to unintended plagiarism.

This was my very first editorial design - that I was very excited about too. The challenges of fitting the text right, breaking up the space, creating continuity along with variety.... I loved every bit of it! Once the art work was printed and I had my baby in my hands, I felt on top of the world! I had never designed as well as written something so vast before and the challenge was great!

At first, for the cover page I had thought of a photograph of a crumpled ball of paper in full zoom filling the whole page, but while clicking the photograph this visual came to mind and I felt it suited the topic of my dissertation as well.

I would love some feedback. Waiting to hear from you all!

P.S I made the cuffs..and so can you!

The sudden craze for cuffs, I have no idea why...just how my other sudden crazes pop along and diffuse with time. LOL. So my college annual day was the next day and I had exhausted all my shopping funds for the month...because sometimes I just can't control :D....and I wanted the amazing cuffs I see on online shopping sites so badly but time or money did not permit.. the last minute craving spinned my creative juices, I googled a bit and this is what I came up with! And in one night!
So i thought I could share it with you all and you can make your own cuffs too!

Here's what you need.

...and some thread! Lol where's my mind :D

So what you got to do is..

Step 1.  Measure the strip of lace that you like around your hand and snip it off.
I tried using a thinner lace but with the fabric stiffener I used, it did not stay stiff enough...so I used the thicker cotton lace and it worked much better!

Step 2.  Place the lace around the foil wrapped bottle and secure it with the thread.

Step 3.   Spray the fabric stiffener evenly all over the lace.

Step 4.   My fabric stiffener needed hot air to dry and stiffen fast. Dry the lace with a hot air hairdryer.

Step 5. Repeat step 3 and 4 around 5 to 6 times. You can judge how many times you need to repeat the steps by checking how stiff the lace gets.

Step 6.  Untie the thread and spray the lace with gold acrylic spray. You can use any preferred color, even neon colors would look great!

Step 7.   Wear it. Admire it. Dance around. Flaunt it....its your creation! (well that's what I did :D)

The second cuff I made, with the diagonal lines running across its has a very edgy look to it...and right now I'm so hooked on to edgy stuff!

What you'll need :  Toilet roll, cardboard tube, thick thread, scizzors, and acrylic spray ( I used gold )

Step 1:   Cut a slit through the cardboard tube. Stretch it to fit your hand.

Step 2:   At one run the thread around the tube horizontally and tie a knot. Now make a diagonal design around the cardboard tube and tie a knot at the other end.

Step 3:   Spray the cuff with your acrylic spray.

Thats it! An all new funky cuff in just a few minutes! Now thats fab!

The college annual day calls for formal attire and the whole college decides to dress desi. :D
I wore this short anarkali in cool hues with the purple and pink dominating the look. To match the green and blue details I decided to pair it with a deep green churi pant. My gold sandals with the pink sole were perfect for the look and kept me comfortable throughout the day. I finished off the look with edgy jewellery in ocean hues and gold. I felt the edgy jewellery took the traditional look to another level. My "all new" statement gold cuff really made a statement and got a lot of complements that day. The photographs are taken by my dear friend Maneka Rodrigues.

Things that are made by you hold the most value. :)

DSC_0013Photography is something I always go back to, to escape  the daily routine and enter a world of my own,  finding the perfect moments to click and the perfect frames. The previous weekend a couple of friends happened to come over to do a fashion shoot in my locality for its unique latin portuguese architecture and the vibrant coloured walls, so I grabbed the opportunity, picked my camera and tagged along! These were a few of the shots I managed to capture.

This is where I live, my favourite place on earth!

The joy of teaching art

I had never taught kids before, or dealt with handling kids. The whole experience was totally new, but as I am always, I was super excited to dive in something new, and learn from the experience. What I din't know was how much I would come to love this new experience.

I give private art classes, I started off with one student and I now have three students of the ages 4 and 10. In the begining all I tried to do was figure out how the child thinks and reacts to the projects given, what they like doing more, getting to know them was my aim. Eight months later, after learning so much from these kids, and in turn teaching them too, every single art class brings me so much joy! The little things they say to me matter so much and sometimes make my day.

The love of teaching is growing on me, it feels so good to give away my knowledge to little growing kids, adding something to their lives. The artworks they come up with are so brilliant, their wild imagination amazes me. Their stories can go on and on. Its made me realize what thinking like a kid really means.

 Brilliant Vir

Atharva.....the cutest!

These kids brighten my day.

Hoping to learn and experience much more from teaching kids art!

First Wacom sketch

bird poo2

The work done on the previous post are done on the Wacom, but this was my first Wacom sketch. I am finally getting comfortable with the Wacom pen. It did take some time. I love the Wacom but I have to admit, drawing with pen or pencil on paper still rules! This sketch started out as doodling around a photo of a friend, and I ended sketching out my friend too as I felt it would complete it. And no, I din't imagine the big hair and moustache on the female face, the photo was taken when my friend was dressed that way and I must say I love the quirky look! :D

A big fat thankyou to my uncle who gifted me the Wacom. I'm totally in love with it!

And something's done!

Here's what I managed to submit by Monday morning. Alot of work is yet to be done on this magazine campaign itself and I have also got more medias to be completed. Now I am awaiting the constructive criticism to be given by the professors. Would love some feedback from you all too. :) The ads are at the comprehensive stage, alot has yet to be done, work in progress!

These 3 ads are part of a magazine campaign. With the realistic rendering of the human figure posing infront of a graffiti on a street wall I wanted to give the youthful street style feel to the ad campaign.

P.S.  A big thankyou to the friends who posed for my reference photographs and did whatever I told them to do LOL! :D
